MFP and ATR joint filing on Michigan PEG issue with the FCC
Tuesday, March 31 2009 Americans for Tax Reform and the Media Freedom Project recognize the government’s opinion of the importance of public, educational, and government (PEG) programming. However, in Michigan, PEG providers’ protest against video providers moving their programming to a digital platform, while demanding prime channel placement on those video providers’ systems, is simply unacceptable and should be rejected by the FCC.
MFP commends Governor Huntsman on veto of H.B. 353
Thursday, March 26 2009 WASHINGTON – Upon the news that Governor Jon Huntsman’s veto of H.B. 353, Media Freedom Project Executive Director Derek Hunter released the following statement.
“This veto is a victory for Utah taxpayers. The bill would have undoubtedly been declared a violation of the Dormant Commerce Clause of the Constitution, the First Amendment, or both and would have ended up costing Utah taxpayers the legal fees of those challenging it, just as it has in every other state where similar laws have been tried,” said Hunter. “Protecting children from content inappropriate for their age is a laudable goal, however it is the responsibility of parents, not government. Governor Huntsman is to be commended for his willingness to take a difficult stance against a seemingly popular, yet unconstitutional bill and stand up for the taxpayers of Utah.”
